          (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number)

          What is an ITIN?

An ITIN is a 9-digit number the IRS issues if you need a U.S. taxpayer identification number for federal tax purposes, but you aren’t eligible for a Social Security number (SSN).

              Important Information About ITINs

An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is issued by the IRS for federal tax purposes only.

At United for the Community, we want you to understand what an ITIN does not do:

                • It does not qualify you for Social Security benefits or the Earned Income Tax Credit.

                • It does not provide or change your immigration status.

                • It does not authorize you to work legally in the U.S.

                • It does not serve as official identification outside of the federal tax system.

Our role is to help you apply for or renew your ITIN so you can file your taxes correctly and meet IRS requirements.
